Mobile Bar Awards Liberty Bell Award

The Mobile Bar Association awarded the City of Mobile’s Public Safety Director Lawrence Battiste with the Liberty Bell Award during last week’s Law Day Luncheon. Each year, this award recognizes a non-lawyer from the community whose work has helped strengthen the American legal system. Award recipients promote a better understanding of the constitution, encourage respect for legal systems and courts and foster a better understanding and appreciation of the rule of law. According to Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson, “Battiste displayed all those qualities last year as our community engaged in the national dialogue concerning police reform and accountability. Even when it was difficult, he engaged with citizens to answer questions about how the Mobile Police Department operates and listened to input from citizens on how to improve the department’s service to the community.”
