Restoration Of Gulf Shores Beach Begins

Work has begun on the restoration of Gulf Shores’ West Beach, WKRG reports. While a major beach restoration project is expected later this year, for now, sand is being pumped from Little Lagoon Pass into the beach’s most damaged areas. “We believe it’s going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 cubic yards,” city engineer Mark Acreman said of the dredged volume. “To put that in perspective, it’s about 2,000 dump trucks worth of sand. It will be substantial. You will see an improvement. Is it the magic bullet? No.” The project will last at least two months. The major project to restore beaches in Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores and in Orange Beach, funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is expected to begin after the summer season.
