Mobile Area Workforce Alliance To Help Meet Skill Needs

The Mobile Chamber has announced the Mobile Area Workforce Alliance (MAWA), which is made up of the chamber, the Chickasaw City School System, the Mobile County Public School System, the Saraland City School System, the Satsuma City School System, the Mobile Area Education Foundation, Bishop State Community College, Coastal Alabama Community College, the University of South Alabama, Spring Hill College, the University of Mobile, Alabama Industrial Development Training, the Southwest Alabama Partnership for Training and Employment, and the South Alabama Workforce Development Council. Dedicated to bolstering the local labor market by attracting projects and expansions that create new jobs, MAWA aims to align classroom learning with practical industry needs. The group first met in fall 2022 and recently went public with the establishment of measurable objectives of alignment, responsiveness, engagement and awareness. It has also outlined action steps to achieve each as it supports the estimated growth of 6,362 jobs in the area over the next five years.
