Ivy Announces $41 Million From GOMESA
Gov. Kay Ivey recently announced more than $41 million for 17 projects in Mobile and Baldwin counties that will be funded through the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act of 2006 (GOMESA). Altogether, Ivey has allocated nearly $100 million for local GOMESA projects, the funds for which originate from offshore oil and gas royalties. Part of the announcements was an $8-million allocation to the City of Mobile to assist with enhancements at Cooper Riverside Park. In Baldwin County, the City of Spanish Fort was allocated $8.5 million to acquire Cypress Point, 142 acres earmarked for a waterfront park with features including picnic areas, walking trails, waterfront access, piers and interpretive monuments and signs. The site was previously approved by Baldwin County for a multifamily mixed-use development. Not only to be preserved, but also to serve as a tourist attraction, the property has easy access from Interstate 10 and Highways 31 and 225.
