Oyster Gardening Target Of MBG Event

The Mobile Botanical Gardens (MBG) is hosting an Oyster Gardening program on September 6 at 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Dr. P.J. Waters, an associate extension professor from the Auburn University Marine Extension and a Resource Center and Alabama Cooperative Extension Service agent, will give a comprehensive overview of the program that has cultivated more than 1.6 million advanced stocker oysters. Waters will examine the operational model as he highlights the collaborative efforts between volunteers, scientists and conservationists. Additionally, he will chart the program’s growth over time, showcasing its evolution and expansion. He will explore the parallels between oyster gardening and oyster farming and explain the biology of oysters and their crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. This First Friday Presentation is free for MBG members, but registration via email is required. There will be lunch from Georgia Roussos Catering after the program for $15.
