Oyster Harvest Opens October 3

The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Marine Resources Division (MRD) will open limited areas of public oyster bottoms for weekday harvest from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m beginning October 3. Weekend harvest will also be allowed from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the following four Saturdays: October 8, 15, 22 and 29. Alabama’s Oyster Management Station (OMS) Oyster Grid Map shows the locations and open harvest. Harvesters should visit the OMS across from Jemison’s Bait and Tackle at 16871 Dauphin Island Parkway to drop off their OMS identification cards and confirm which grids are open for harvest. Heron Bay, Cedar Point East and Cedar Point West grids will open on October 3. Grids will close based on evaluations of the harvest by MRD staff. According to an AL.com report, a third consecutive productive season is expected.
