Art Talks Coming To MMofA

The Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA) has announced two Art Talk events taking place at the museum. The first, on June 25 at 6:30 p.m., features Jaime DeSimone, chief curator of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine. She will speak on how Louise Nevelson became the iconic artist she is remembered as today for her paintings, prints, drawings, sculptures and jewelry. The second, on July 9 at 6:30 p.m., is a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Kern Jackson on the Kent Bicentennial Portfolio, which challenged 12 artists to interpret the concept of independence without restriction. The results ranged from celebratory to critical, capturing the immigrant experience, the struggle for voting rights and the complexities of American history. Panelists are Soynika Edwards-Bush, Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, Frank Ledbetter, Mobile County Commissioner Merceria Ludgood, Wanda Sullivan and Tony Wright.
