Baldwin Pops Memeorial Day Concerts Announced

The Baldwin Pops will mark Memorial Day with two free outdoor concerts. The first will be on May 25 at 6 p.m. at Henry George Park on the Fairhope bluff. The second will be on May 31 at 6 p.m. at Foley Heritage Park. Both are family-friendly and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic. The programs will feature a patriotic repertoire, alongside the premiere of “The Poet of Tolstoy Park,” a new work arranged by Baldwin Pops tubist and former U.S. Army Band musician Justin McCall. The piece is built on a fiddle tune by local musician Tom Morley written in tribute to Henry Stuart, the Fairhope resident whose life inspired Sonny Brewer’s novel of the same name. The commission was made possible by a grant from the Hargrove Foundation of Mobile, and the work will become a permanent part of the Baldwin Pops library. Both evenings will also include a children’s march with American flags handed out to the youngest members of the audience to carry.
