Ballyhoo Festival Coming To Gulf Shores

The Ballyhoo Festival will be held at Gulf State Park on March 2 and 3, Mullet Wrapper reports. Celebrating fine art and culture, 110 arts and crafts vendors from 24 states are to be on display. Focusing on the culture of different people and locations in the U.S., the event will feature the culture of the Poarch Creek Indians on March 2. They will provide historical narrative about how they remained in Alabama after the Trail of Tears and how they are the only federally recognized tribe in the state. Members of the tribe’s Pow Wow Club will perform original tribal dance in ceremonial regalia at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. March 3 will focus on early Americana Appalachian music in the form of a fiddle/banjo competition. Musicians from Alabama and surrounding states will compete for $3,000 in cash prizes. There will also be a Kid’s Korner for an opportunity to create art. The Coastal Alabama Chamber of Commerce will sell adult beverages, water and soft drinks, and the food court will include Cajun food from New Orleans and Asian food. The lineup of music on the Ballyhoo Stage will include the Destinations, Sugarcane Jane and the Selma Boys on March 2 and the Gram Rae Duo and Brooks Hubbert and The Couldn’t Be on March 3.
