Clotilda Memorial Design Opens To Artists

The state is funding a memorial to honor the survivors of the slave ship Clotilda, and officials are seeking artists to design it, AL.com reported. The request for qualifications is open through August 9. The request is “open to local, national, and international artists and artist teams,” who are asked to “clarify their connection to the project’s subject matter.” The projected timeline for the $2-million project gives potential artists through July 13 to ask questions before submitting an application. A virtual information session will be held July 16. Finalists will be selected and notified on September 5, when a new request for proposals will open. The memorial is to be completed by late 2027 or early 2028.
