Crescent Theater Reopens In Mobile

Mobile’s Crescent Theater at 208 Dauphin St. began a new chapter this week with a reopening its operators hope will make it “a hub for comedy, cinema and the local arts community,” AL.com reports. The venue, built in the 1880s for vaudeville and burlesque shows, had financial struggles throughout its history, most recently between 2008 and 2023, when it showed mostly artistic, independent and foreign films. Operators Zeke Buckhaults and Stu Schayot kicked off their new approach on September 4 and 5 by featuring comedy shows with Joe Zimmerman and Matt Braunger and a showing of The Big Lebowski. The “back-to-the-roots” approach will continue this month with performances by comedians Tekk Johnson, Olivia Searcy, Zac Amico and Zach Holms, plus showings of Labyrinth and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie.
