Eastern Shore Art Center Program Granted $90,000

Impact 100 Baldwin County Awards has granted $90,000 to fund Eastern Shore Art Center’s “Access 2 Art” program, the Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce recently reported. The initiative involves renovations to the teaching academy, both exterior and interior. An Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant wheelchair ramp, motorized automatic doors, revamped teaching studio and new virtual learning media lab are included. Academy Director Reanna Watson explained, “The pandemic has challenged us to reevaluate what the community needs from the current studios and to find new ways to reach our students. As public and private schools make do without physical field trips, the art center will now be able to offer prerecorded, affordable virtual art lessons for virtual and homeschooled students.” There are also plans to create a small reception area at the academy entrance and install new, tougher flooring in the hallways. Construction is to begin before the end of the year.
