MMofA Announces Birthday Bash, New Exhibits

The Mobile Museum of Art (MMofA) has announced the 60th anniversary of its founding with a 1960s-themed “Birthday Bash” and the opening of a special exhibition, “1960s Hard Edge and Op Art: Tribute to the Responsive Eye,” on October 26. The exhibit re-creates the Museum of Modern Art’s pioneering show The Responsive Eye featuring works from optical (Op) art and hard-edge movements and artists such as Josef Albers, Richard Anuszkiewicz, Gene Davis, Julian Stanczak and Frank Stella. Additionally, MMofA will have several exhibitions with notable pieces on view. “(Un)Settled: The Landscape in American Art” will open on October 12 and includes works by Georgia O’Keeffe, Benny Andrews, Jeffrey Gibson, Ed Ruscha and Andrew Wyeth. Tickets are on sale for the Birthday Bash, also taking place on October 26, for $175 until October 1, when prices will increase to $200. MMofA will follow the ticketed event with a free community birthday party for the museum on November 9.
