MSO “Firebird” Concert Coming Up

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is holding its “Firebird” concert on January 20 at 7:30 p.m., and January 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Saenger Theatre Mobile. It features Igor Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite, Duke Ellington’s River Suite and Piotr Tchaikovsky’s Concerto No. 1, the latter of which will be performed by pianist Maxim Lando. After winning first prize in the 2018 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, Lando quickly moved from sold-out debut recitals to performing with major orchestras across the globe. The New York Times describes him as displaying “brilliance and infectious exuberance” combined with “impressive delicacy” and a “wild-eyed danger.” Tickets are $20-$96 ($10 for students) online, by phone at 251-432-2010 or at the MSO box office at 257 Dauphin Street. There is also an informative pre-concert talk, TakeNote, to enhance the enjoyment of classical concerts. It begins at 6:30 p.m. before Saturday performances and 1:30 p.m. before Sunday performances in Room 1927 adjacent to the Saenger entrance on Joachim Street.
