MSO To Present “Dreams”

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will present “Dreams” on January 17 at 7:30 p.m. and January 18 at 2:30 p.m. at Saenger Theatre Mobile. The concert features Piotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 (Winter Dreams) and violinist Melissa White performing an American concerto. White is a founding member of The Harlem Quartet, acclaimed for performances with MSO and in small concerts across South Alabama. Lately, she has been on a mission to reintroduce audiences to the brilliance of composer Florence Price. She will perform Price’s 1952 Violin Concerto No. 1, almost forgotten until it was found in 2009 in an abandoned house Price had used as a summer home. Tickets are $20-$96. TakeNote, an informative pre-concert talk by David Duff, music director at Alabama Public Radio, begins at 6:30 p.m. before Saturday’s performance and at 1:30 p.m. before Sunday’s performance in Room 1927 adjacent to the theater’s entrance on Joachim Street.
