MSO To Present Symphonic Innovations Next Month

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra (MSO) will present Symphonic Innovations on January 21 at 7:30 p.m. and January 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Saenger Theatre Mobile. Numbers will include Joan Tower’s “Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman,” Jennifer Higdon’s “Mandolin Concerto” and Antonin Dvorak’s “New World” from his Symphony No. 9. Music Director Scott Speck said Higdon is “famous throughout the world, and now she is one of the top two or three most-played living composers. We co-commissioned her ‘Mandolin Concerto,’ together with the Munich Philharmonic and Chicago Philharmonic, and now we are thrilled to perform it for you. In addition to welcoming Avi Avital, the first classical mandolinist ever nominated for a Grammy, we are delighted that Jennifer herself will be on hand to introduce the piece for you!”
