New Exhibit At Carnival Museum
The Mobile Carnival Museum is presenting “Carnival and War: Mardi Gras During Times of Armed Conflict” through April 2025. It explores how the tradition has been shaped and, at times, shaped military struggles from the Mexican-American War through the Vietnam War. Providing perspectives of war, Mobile and Carnival, the show is international in scope and includes focused accounts of individuals, views of Mobile during wartime, press accounts of celebrations, artworks, artifacts and many other pieces. “Cartledge ‘Cart’ Blackwell, the museum’s historian and curator, put a lot of effort into the research for the exhibit—pulling together newspaper accounts, personal correspondence, historical maps and one-of-a-kind items that showcase how much Mardi Gras has meant to generations of Mobilians,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said.
