Orchestra Announces “Fanfare”

The Mobile Symphony Orchestra has announced that its first show will be called “Fanfare” and held January 23-24 at the Saenger Theatre in Mobile. To allow for social distancing, four performances will be held: 6 and 8:30 p.m. on the 23rd, and 1 and 3:30 p.m. on the 24th. Following current guidelines, the orchestra can allow only 400 people into the theater at a time, and masks are required throughout the performance. Concerts are limited to approximately 1 h, without an intermission. The show “celebrates all creatures great and small,” Music Director Scott Speck explained. “Saint-Saens’ beloved Carnival of the Animals, paired with the witty verse of Ogden Nash, presents the animals of the orchestra in all their variety, humor and beauty – from ‘Fossils’ to ‘Cuckoo’ to ‘The Swan.’ Respighi’s glorious Ancient Airs and Dances are a rollicking and elegant feast for the strings. And the brass get a virtuosic workout in John Cheetham’s clever quintet, A Brass Menagerie.”
