Mobile Chamber Awards Potts, Maisel
The Mobile Chamber has announced the recipients of two awards honoring individuals who exemplify extraordinary dedication and leadership in their respective field and embody the spirit of innovation and community engagement. The Alfred F. Delchamps Award was presented to Jocko Potts, president and CEO of PMT Publishing, in recognition of outstanding contributions to Mobile’s cultural and economic landscape. “From pioneering his alternative newspaper, The Azalea City News, and Inside Alabama Politics, Alabama’s number-one political publication for 25 years, to today’s Business Alabama Magazine and lifestyle publication Mobile Bay Magazine, Potts has been a relentless advocate for Mobile and the state of Alabama,” the chamber said. New this year is the Freida G. Maisel Businesswoman of the Year award. It was presented posthumously to its namesake who, in 1973, bought a small beverage wholesaler in Mobile, renamed it Gulf Distributing Co., and built the foundation of a business that now serves customers in six states and employs nearly 2,000 people. Her son, Elliot B. Maisel, chairman and CEO of Gulf Distributing Holdings, LLC, accepted the honor on her behalf.
