Foley Main Street Updates

FOLEY, Ala. — Foley Main Street has rolled out its “Envision Downtown Foley” program, which won an award last month for “Excellence in Business Development” from Main Street Alabama. In it, supporting actions are identified and meant to serve as a starting point and guide for discussion, planning and next steps. Other ideas, projects and initiatives are expected to grow out of this planning effort in the short term. Additionally, property owners shared recent investments in Downtown Foley, including the purchase of the old Onlooker Building at 217 North McKenzie Street by Tim Lower, who has already leased it to Southern Shores Coffee. Frances Holk-Jones announced her improvement of the Foley Hotel. Daniel Cox and Marti Webster added a new air ventilation system to Scuttlebutts, and have plans to open a non-smoking speakeasy with a patio on the side and in the back, and have leased the rest of the building. Cox and Webster also said they have a deal in principle to purchase the Foley Coffee Shop at 213 North McKenzie Street and plan to keep the name and expand the business. Finally, Tim and Alexa Lipe have bought the lot next to the Fortis college property on Laurel Avenue and are in the design stages of constructing a brewery.
