Foley Main Street Wins Three State Awards

Community foundation Foley Main Street, Inc. announced it won three awards from Main Street Alabama. The awards highlight the impacts of Main Street organizations in 17 categories. Foley Main Street won an Award of Excellence for promotion, one for planning and public space and one for historic preservation. It also joined Heflin, Montevallo and Oxford in reaching a milestone of 10 million reinvestment efforts. Economic impact numbers reported monthly by Foley Main Street of private property owner investment and property bought by private investors and City of Foley investment in downtown improvements were used in the calculation of this recognition. Notable achievements that contributed toward the awards include funding an outdoor auditorium and park, rehabilitation of the historic Hollis building and the Foley Main Street CATalyst event. The event kicked off Cat Alley, a community effort to add more public art in Downtown Foley, create gathering places and promote connectivity. There were 1,500 entries in the Cat Alley elementary school art contest, and more than 1,500 people attended.
