Leadership Alabama Chooses 10 From Mobile

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson recently announced that 10 Mobilians are part of Leadership Alabama’s current class of statewide leaders. One is the city’s Shonnda Smith. Smith began her stint with the city in 2019, leading the Mobile Parks and Recreation Department in 2019, and is currently interim executive director of public works. The other class members from Mobile include Stephanie Burt (Airbus); Melissa Cross (McAleer’s Office Furniture); Todd Greer (Innovation Portal); Adele Hapworth (American Equity Underwriters); Abe Harper (Harper Technologies); George Hunter (Spire); Elliott Maisel (Gulf Distributing Holdings); John Marymount (University of South Alabama College of Medicine); and Joe Stough, III (Infirmary Health). Leadership Alabama is a statewide nonprofit that brings together a class of 65-70 participants together for four two-day retreats each fall. The program objective is to present a series of issues-oriented forums based on the belief that knowledge is a key element and prime motivator of leadership. Class members visit communities across the state, and as they seek a mutual understanding of the state’s problems and priorities, they also seek to invent vital solutions to the challenges that define the future of Alabama.
