ADEM Field Office Breaks Ground In Mobile
MOBILE, Ala. — A new, $10.9-million building consolidating state environmental management services will be constructed along a redeveloped Broad Street in Mobile, AL.com reported. Groundbreaking on the 15,000-ft2 Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) field office took place on April 22. The new building will bring approximately 30 ADEM staff who are currently working in two buildings under one roof and replace what ADEM describes as an outdated facility. Alabama Gulf Coast Recovery Council settlement money from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill is paying for $7.9 million of its cost, and the State of Alabama is paying an additional $3 million. The project’s architect is Nic Gray of Watermark Design Group, LLC, of Mobile, and the contractor is Lance Wyatt of J.T. Harrison Construction Co., Inc., of Tuscaloosa. Construction is expected to be complete in May 2023. The Broad Street redevelopment project began in 2019 and is expected to be complete by fall 2023.
