Alabama Coastal Cleanup Announced

The 39th Annual Alabama Coastal Cleanup is planned for September 19 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. Alabama’s largest single-day volunteer cleanup event, it is coordinated by theAlabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ State Lands Division andAlabama People Against a Littered State and has had more than 113,000 volunteers participate since 1987. In addition to removing various forms of marine debris, participants will recycle many of the plastic bottles and aluminum cans collected. Organizers are recommending participants use the Ocean Conservancy Clean Swell app to tally the debris. Data collected over the years help provide insight into the issue of marine debris and generate efforts to better understand its causes and mitigate it in the future. Volunteers are needed for cleanup sites in zones across Mobile and Baldwin counties.
