Aloe Bay Public Discussion Next Week

A weeklong series of virtual and in-person events next week offers the public a chance to help shape the work to be done around Dauphin Island’s Aloe Bay, AL.com reported. Part of the $315 million for projects along the coast announced in 2018 (mostly from settlements related to the Deepwater Horizon disaster), there is more than $16 million to spend to design, plan and permit Aloe Bay Harbour Town. Described as “a business district with public facilities along Aloe Bay to enhance economic and tourism opportunities,” Aloe Bay is in a safer place, when it comes to hurricane threats, than the island’s developed east side. A “Kick-Off and Online Design Session” starts at 5:30 p.m. on January 18. An open house at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Shelby Center is planned for 4 p.m. the next day,  and there is a “Sustainability Virtual Workshop” at 3 p.m. on January 20. A “Development Strategies” online workshop is set for 3 p.m. on January 21. On January 22 at 5:30, there will be a wrap-up “Work-in-Progress” virtual presentation, and January 19-22 include “Virtual Studios” for informal discussion with the design team.
