Dauphin Island Shoreline Restoration Gets Funds

The Mobile County Commission recently voted to accept a $4.9-million National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant for the Dauphin Island Causeway Shoreline Restoration Project’s second phase, Call News reports. The project’s purpose is to protect the causeway, which stretches from Bayfront Park to Cedar Point to the Dog River Bridge, from erosion and storm overwash, and restore the natural habitat. Phase II of the multiyear project is to see completion of engineering and design, and augmentation of marsh restoration on the causeway’s north end. The south end will be addressed in Phase III.
