Fairhope Waterfront Project Moves Forward

Details on the proposed RESTORE Working Waterfront project in Fairhope were recently reported on in The Courier. Now to include pavilions on South Beach, pier improvements and more access to the bluffs that will not cut into the hillside, modifications include changes made from both public comment periods (Goodwin Mills Cawood Creates Recovery Division). Scott Hutchinson of Mobile firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood told Fairhope City Council members that the bluffs will not be changed but will have an Americans With Disabilities Act-compliant ramp running their height. Two new stairways will also be added on the South Beach bluffs to improve access. A wide pedestrian promenade along the bulkhead with landscaping will join a 400-ft2 pavilion with a pergola and seating space. Another pavilion will be added further south in the park at an existing beach. New pier improvements will include railings, fishing stations and a crabbing pier. The $6.2-million job is intended to stabilize the bluff overlooking Mobile Bay and the waterfront.
