Extra Season for Red Snapper Expected

Outdoor Alabama recently reported that private recreational anglers (including state charter vessels) are likely to get one more opportunity to fish for red snapper this year. Approximately 100,000 lb remain in the quota of 1,122,622 lb. The previous season ended early (on July 4) because the quota was nearly met with almost 200 more trips per day than usual, catch data shows. Director of the Alabama Marine Resources Division Scott Bannon attributed this to self-quarantining. He added that better catch data for greater amberjack and gray triggerfish will be obtained next year as they become mandatory species for recording in Snapper Check.
