Laguna Cove Park Plans Proceed

The City of Gulf Shores is moving forward with plans to create a new nature park on Little Lagoon called Laguna Cove. To transform a 53-acre tract into a space for conservation and passive outdoor recreation, the site will see restoration of wetlands and critical habitats and include public restrooms and low-impact parking. It will offer opportunities for kayaking, birding and interpretive boardwalks. The project is fully funded by a Natural Resource Damage Assessment grant from the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, which also covered the land purchase in 2017. Construction will be handled by Asphalt Services, which placed a bid of $2.6 million, and design work will be provided by Goodwyn Mills Cawood. The project is to be completed by the end of summer.
