Local Cooks Win ADCNR Event

SPANISH FORT, Ala — A venison birria taco dish prepared by the Five Rivers Fiesta team of Daniel Haas, Thomas Clark, Todd Amos and Charles Green was crowned overall champion of the recent Alabama Wildlife Federation Wild Game Cook-Off, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) announced. Held at the Bluegill Restaurant in Spanish Fort before an overflow crowd, the event included other local winners, with Fairhope Fish House’s day boat tuna tacos winning the fish category. A wild turkey confit prepared by the Tensaw Delta Waterfowl/Coastal Conservation Association Alabama – Eastern Shore Chapter team took second in the fowl division, followed by a quail wrap by Team Hiller of the Mobile-based fire alarm supplier. Gator bites by Equipment Depot took second in the game category, and Eastern Shore Ace Hardware took third with bacon-wrapped venison. The winning team now advances to the cook-off’s state finals, which will be held next August.
