Marine Environmental Awards Luncheon Announced

The Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation will host the 11th annual Marine Environmental Awards Luncheon on October 25 at 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel. It will feature Plastic Oceans International Director of Science Dr. Charlie Rolsky, who also serves as director of research for the Shaw Institute, where he conducts contaminant monitoring, marine mammals’ health surveys and research on plastic pollution. He is also the host of “Breaking It Down,” a YouTube series in which he simplifies science in a fun and engaging way. The Gulf Coast Marine Environmental Excellence Award, which recognizes an individual who has made outstanding contributions to marine environmental sustainability in the Alabama Gulf Coast, will be presented to John Shell of the Eagle Reef Project. The Gulf Coast Marine Environmental Leadership Award, which recognizes an organization that has improved marine environmental sustainability in the Alabama Gulf Coast, will be presented to the Downtown Mobile Alliance and Mobile Baykeeper for their Peace Out, Plastic campaign.
