The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program (MBNEP) has received a $255,000 donation from the City of Daphne, AL.com reported. While there is no specific earmark for the money, the Daphne City Council’s resolution names theD’Olive Creek Watershed restoration and other projects “related to creating a clean water future for the city and the Alabama coast.” MBNEP “has been very beneficial to our community through [its] work in preventing stormwater erosion and sedimentation [in the D’Olive watershed], and we felt like they deserved a little bit more than what we had been contributing,” said Councilman Benjamin Hughes. “The money is gonna go to enhancing and improving the environmental infrastructure within the community.” Approximately $123,600 of the funds will be from the city’s allotment from the American Rescue Plan, and the remainder will come from the city’s general fund.
