Mobile Baykeeper Celebrates Anniversaries

MOBILE, Ala. — Mobile Baykeeper recently announced its 25-year anniversary of combating pollution in the Mobile Bay Watershed and across coastal Alabama. It has updated its website with stories that look back on some of its milestones. Mobile Baykeeper hopes its online series will educate the public on the importance of environmental protections, raise awareness about the responsibility to ensure these protections are not diluted or denied, and engage the public to advocate for another 50 years of clean water for future generations. It noted that this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Clean Water Act (CWA), the federal legislation that established the basic structure for permitted discharges of pollutants into waters of the U.S. It added that the CWA provides Mobile Baykeeper, other waterkeeper organizations and citizens the ability to hold polluters accountable. Finally, the organization’s 2021 Annual Report, which includes a message from Executive Director William Strickland, is now available.
