Mobile Botanical Gardens Hires New Executive Director

The Mobile Botanical Gardens has announced that Dr. Cynthia D. Klemme recently joined the gardens as its new executive director. She has a bachelor’s degree in horticultural sciences from Texas A&M and a master’s degree in public horticulture administration from the Longwood Graduate Program at the University of Delaware focusing on not-for-profit management in public horticulture and botanical gardens with a Certificate in Museum Studies. In her career of more than 25 years, Klemmer has been primarily in nonprofit service at botanical gardens around the country: Chicago Botanic Garden, the National Gardening Association, Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, Fairchild Tropical Garden, the Bok Tower Gardens and the San Antonio Botanic Garden. Most recently, she served as public gardens manager for the City of Austin’s Parks and Recreation Department, where she managed the Zilker Botanical Garden, historic Mayfield Cottage and Gardens and the city’s community gardens program with more than 25 sites.
