Mobile Mulls Perch Creek Preserve Expansion

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said that a June 22 meeting of the City Council saw consideration for a proposal to purchase a parcel of land known as the Ziebach Property. “This is the last piece needed for our plan to overhaul the Perch Creek Preserve, which would also include Helen Wood Park, McNally Park and another piece of property the city has already purchased on the north side of Dauphin Island Parkway,” he added. The long-range Perch Creek Nature Trail & Preserve project is to be implemented over several years to eventually provide both land- and water-based passive recreation activities including bicycle paths, hiking trails, kayaking and canoeing. Using federal funds, Mobile-based nonprofit The Nature Conservancy is leading a shoreline protection project at the site in an effort to preserve it.
