PEP Presents Environmental Award

Partners for Environmental Progress (PEP) of Mobile honored area businesses and organizations for their leadership in sustainability at its 25th Annual Membership Meeting and Environmental Stewardship Awards on September 25. Since 2005, the awards have recognized companies and organizations making significant contributions to the Gulf Coast’s environment. This year’s winners included projects ranging from living shorelines and ecotourism on Dauphin Island (by Moffatt & Nichol and Goodwyn Mills Cawood) to Ransom Solutions’ Ransom Recycling and Road to Work programs, which combine workforce development with environmental impact. Other honorees were ArcelorMittal Calvert for a major lighting retrofit, Outokumpu Stainless USA for its soft lime reduction initiative, Tate & Lyle for eliminating PFAS-containing foam, and Robert Swann of the Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, named 2025 Community Partner. PEP also introduced a new Sustainable Small Business Champion Award, presented to Smash My Trash for reducing waste hauling trips through onsite dumpster compaction. Collectively, this year’s award-winning projects reduced 618,263 mT of greenhouse gas emissions—equivalent to removing 144,213 cars from Mobile County roads. Award videos are available here.
