Students Install, Learn About Dune-Building Trees

GULF SHORES, Ala. — Students from Gulf Shores City Schools helped Dune Doctors, LLC, of Pensacola and Gulf State Park staff initiate coastal dunes by strategically placing recycled Christmas trees along the Gulf State Park beach and installing native dune-building vegetation around them last week, Mullet Wrapper reports. Thirty-nine Gulf Shores High School students and seventh graders were selected as mentors to lead 146 fifth graders in installing 4,380 trees. The event followed a lecture series by Gulf Shores High School teachers on preserving and protecting coastal ecosystems.
