ABC Of Alabama Releases Construction Industry Impact Study

The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama has released an updated economic impact study. The study reaffirms the commercial construction industry’s long-term growth trends in Alabama and highlights the industry’s substantial economic contribution to communities throughout the state. The study reveals a total output impact of $20.1 billion, an earnings impact of $13.5 billion and an employment impact equivalent to 223,000 full-time jobs. The study confirms commercial construction’s vital role in Alabama’s economy and underscores the importance of continued investment in the sector to sustain the state’s economic momentum in the years to come. Dr. Keivan Deravi, who conducted the study on behalf of ABC of Alabama, emphasized the industry’s relevance, stating, “Commercial construction represents 4.7% of Alabama’s GDP and is a cornerstone of the state’s economic foundation.” Beyond the direct impacts on output, payroll and employment, the study examines the broader economic effects of the commercial construction industry. From 2015 to 2023, the industry’s total economic impact grew from $11.9 billion to more than $20.1 billion, a 17% increase over 2021 figures.
