Construction Team Picked For Mobile Airport Terminal Project
Volkert, Inc., of Mobile is joined by Tupelo-based JESCO Construction, Inc., which is part of The Yates Companies, Inc., as part of a team the Mobile Airport Authority (MAA) selected recently to build Mobile’s new $252-million commercial airline terminal at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley, AL.com reports. The project calls for a new terminal with up to eight gates and a parking garage within an industrial and business park east of Interstate 10 and south of Downtown Mobile. Chris Curry, president of MAA, said he will negotiate a price with the firms in the coming weeks and return to the authority with a final proposal for the construction of a project that has been called “transformational” for the city and region. The team was the top choice of five groups that applied for the project, scoring the highest in an assessment the authority laid out for the project and performing well during interviews, according to Curry. JESCO, while headquartered in Mississippi, has had a presence in Mobile for 16 years and worked on local projects. The company has approximately 40 employees at its Mobile location. Other companies involved in the team include Mobile-based Dortch Figures & Sons, Inc.; AVCON, Inc.; FSB; HOK; and the Sunland Group.
