City Of Mobile Extends Timeline For Affordable Builder Projects

The City of Mobile is expanding its search for developers to build or rehabilitate affordable rental housing, announcing a formal extension of its Request for Proposals tied to more than $32 million in federal disaster recovery funds set aside after Hurricanes Sally and Zeta, Downtown Mobile Today reports. The extension keeps the proposal window open for at least one year, with additional awards made on a rolling basis until the funding is fully committed. Both for-profit and nonprofit developers are eligible to apply. The investment is intended to address long-term recovery needs resulting from the 2020 storms while supporting ongoing housing shortages across the city. Applications may include new construction, acquisition or rehabilitation projects as long as they serve low- to moderate-income households and prioritize vulnerable populations. The city is specifically seeking proposals that demonstrate measurable impact, leverage private or public investment and are project-ready, with completion expected within approximately two to three years of commitment. Applicants will undergo underwriting review and capacity evaluation, including financial strength and proof of market need in targeted neighborhoods.
