City Of Mobile Releases Engineering, Public Works Annual Report

The City of Mobile has released the Build Mobile | Engineering & Infrastructure | Public Works Annual Report 2024 highlighting the departments’ work. This report provides an overview of these three major departments and the critical functions they serve. Formerly known only as “Public Works,” these departments are forward-facing and include services like Parks and Recreation and Sanitation. Engineering, Planning and Zoning, and Fleet Maintenance usually work behind the scenes. The goal of the report is to showcase the work being done across the city and highlight the employees involved. Highlights from the report include Engineering’s work on infrastructure, including upgrades to roads, bridges and sidewalks and more. For Public Services, 60,431 T. of household garbage and 179,915 yd3 of residential trash were collected. Teams also collected 88,170 lb. of litter and 825 T. of recycling and repaired more than 4,500 potholes. Parks and Recreation maintained 2,126 acres, including 95 athletic fields and 31,500 plant beds. Hundreds of its events and programs served thousands of citizens of all ages, with a total of 386,337 check-ins across the department’s facilities last year. Build Mobile saw a 26% increase in total inspections, performing 29,574 building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing reviews. To keep the city growing sustainably, Build Mobile reviewed and issued permits for more than 22,000 construction projects in 2024.
