Goodwill Cuts Ribbon On Construction Skills Boot Camp

Goodwill Gulf Coast and the South Alabama Homebuilding Academy (SAHA) hosted a ribbon cutting on January 8 at Goodwill’s McMaken Building at 2448 Gordon Smith Drive in Mobile to mark the launch of the Construction Skills Boot Camp that provides tuition-free construction-related trades classes. Students will receive free hands-on training for in-demand residential construction careers at Goodwill Gulf Coast on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. One eight-week boot camp includes nine basic skills classes, two safety classes and five trade-specific classes. The academy will host job fairs before each graduation so that graduates may interview local companies in search of new hires. Participants will also have access to Goodwill Gulf Coast’s services including career counseling and job search assistance. Participants must be legally allowed to work in the U.S. and must pass a drug screening test. SAHA is a nonprofit that provides hands-on, short-term training to individuals seeking a career in the residential construction industry.
