Local Construction Industry Aids In Hurricane Relief

Thompson Engineering and S. J. & L., Inc., both from Mobile, are spearheading the effort to purchase, collect and deliver needed items to North Carolina. So far, members of the Alabama Chapter of the Associated General Contractors (Alabama AGC) and the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alabama have donated more than $50,000 to purchase items to be delivered to victims of Hurricane Helene in North Carolina. The members helped fill the semi-truck provided by S. J. & L. with pallets of goods being delivered to North Carolina. In addition to the financial donations, the group has received numerous in-kind donations. Thompson, already in North Carolina, obtained a list of needed items through its contacts with the National Guard. Dana Glass and Renie Kennemer with Thompson procured the needed items from local stores, and S. J. & L. provided the transportation to a designated dropoff location. Alabama AGC and ABC of Alabama have been instrumental in obtaining donations from the construction community. Any monies collected through this effort that was not spent prior to the truck leaving will be donated to Samaritan’s Purse in North Carolina. See a full list of participating companies here.
