Mobile County Commits To Five New Stadiums

The Mobile County Board of School Commissioners unanimously approved the hiring of an architect to design five new on-campus high school football stadiums, AL.com reported. The stadiums will be built at Vigor, Davidson, LeFlore, Williamson and B.C. Rain high schools. Once they are complete, Murphy High School will be the only high school in the county without its own stadium. Mobile County Athletic Director Brad Lowell said Murphy will likely continue to play at Ladd-Peebles Stadium for now. However, Rena Philips, Mobile County Public School System director of communications, said officials are still looking at options for Murphy. Recently, B.C. Rain has played its games at Trimmier Park, and Davidson and Williamson have joined Murphy at Ladd-Peebles. Vigor and LeFlore have traditionally played at Prichard Stadium, but both finished the year at Ladd-Peebles last season due to what they called “deplorable issues” in Prichard. Neither construction timelines, nor opening dates have been set, but Philips said the hope is that at least some of the stadiums will be ready in time for the 2022 football season.
