Proposal Search For Africatown Welcome Center Reopened

MOBILE, Ala. — The City of Mobile Architectural Engineering Department is seeking competitive proposals for qualified design professionals to provide design and construction administration-related services for the proposed Africatown Welcome Center Phase I. The city previously awarded the contract to a Birmingham firm, but an agreement could not be reached, so the city has opted to accept and review design proposals from other design firms. The project’s scope of work for Phase I of the Africatown Welcome Center includes the development of a comprehensive site master plan, as well as permitting, engineering and design, surveying, geotechnical, utilities work and community engagement of stakeholders. The welcome center is to enhance the preservation of the community and be a location from which to share and promote the Africatown community as an area of nationally historic significance within the region. A community and stakeholder engagement process will inform design elements of the facility. Proposals in response to the request for qualifications must be submitted no later than 3 p.m. local time on September 7.
