WSC Completes Jack Edwards Airport Control Tower

Mobile-based general contractor White-Spunner Construction (WSC) recently announced the completion of the new Jack Edwards Airport Control Tower in Gulf Shores, Business Alabama reported. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on November 10 at the airport at 3190 Airport Drive in Gulf Shores. WSC worked in partnership with Barge Design Solutions to construct the new 5,277-ft2 tower. The tower itself, a first-of-its-kind project for WSC, consists of seven levels built with two-toned precast concrete exterior panels with steel and concrete floor systems. There are architectural steel canopies on all four of its sides. The curtain wall window glass and glazing are designed to exceed hurricane and impact standards. In addition, WSC oversaw the coordination of utilities, the asphalt drive and the concrete sidewalks. The overall cost of the project was approximately $4.3 million.
