ASMS Student, Teacher And Parent Present At Physics Conference

Mobile-based Alabama School of Mathematics and Science (ASMS) recently had a student, teacher and parent from the school all present research at the annual meeting of the Southeastern Section of the American Physical Society, held at the University of Mississippi earlier this month. Tuyako Khristoforova, a senior at ASMS, presented research on using machine learning to identify superhard compound materials that could replace diamonds in industrial uses. Additionally, ASMS physics teacher Dr. Durga Paudel presented his research on a substance that can be used in a range of different technologies, including LCD displays, computer memory devices, solar panels and copy machines. The goal of his research is to find a way to make production of electronic devices more cost-effective and efficient. Finally, Dr. Albert Gapud, a member of the University of South Alabama’s Physics Department and parent of an ASMS senior, collaborated with researchers from the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory on nuclear magnetic resonance studies of vanadium silicide’s transition to superconductivity.
