Bishop Appoints Interim President
Lawrence Brandyburg was appointed interim president of Bishop State Community College in Mobile following the retirement of Reginald Sykes as president on July 14, AL.com reports. Brandyburg has more than 17 years of higher education experience related to instruction, student services and administration and has been serving most recently as executive vice president of Bishop. He also served as a military officer in the U.S. Army before beginning his educational career at Lone Star College, a system of seven community colleges in Texas that taught more than 80,000 students each year. There, Brandyburg served at five of the system’s locations, including Lone Star College-Jakarta in Indonesia. His titles have included executive director – university center, instructional dean, vice president of instruction and student services, vice president of academic affairs and student success, and special assistant to the president and dean of instruction for behavioral and social sciences. Sykes, who began his tenure at Bishop as interim president in February 2016, has been in the field for 40 years. He remains with the college through the fall semester to facilitate a leadership transition.
