Bishop State Breaks Ground On Advanced Manufacturing Center

A $21-million investment in Mobile’s Bishop State Community College got underway on July 29 with the groundbreaking of its Advanced Manufacturing Center and a new health sciences facility, Alabama Newscenter reported. Intended to educate high school graduates for entry into a modern workforce in two years, the former is a $17-million venture to cater to a variety of growing industries. “As I think about Austal, Airbus and the countless other businesses that we have that need the workforce, the students that come out of here will be feeding that,” commented Mayor Sandy Stimpson. “If we have the right students, then the businesses will locate here.” Industrial maintenance, robotics and 3D printing are a few of the capabilities it will offer when complete in 2022. The health science facility, a $4-million project to transform the old library, is to provide modern simulation teaching labs for the college’s nursing and physical therapy programs when complete in 2021. College President Dr. Reggie Sykes said it “will allow skills development and real-time feedback on students’ clinical experience. This will help support the healthcare facilities in our region. “
