Byrd Honored Upon Retirement

Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced that he presented a proclamation to Gwendolyn P. Byrd at a retirement celebration in her honor. The proclamation made May 12 Gwendolyn P. Byrd Day in the City of Mobile. A product of the local Catholic school system, Byrd began her ministry as a teacher in 1966 and has served in the Archdiocese of Mobile for 46 years. She eventually rose to superintendent and executive director for Catholic Education. “Through her role as an educational leader and her service on local, state and national boards related to various educational initiatives, Miss Byrd has positively influenced the development of thousands of schoolchildren and their families in Mobile and across the State of Alabama,” Stimpson said.
